IT administrators are frustrated with SPAM on two fronts:

  1.  the amount their servers are bombarded with and

  2. the amount of administration involved with filtering that SPAM.

An ideal solution would require little or no administration by the IT staff , minimize the Internet bandwidth consumed by SPAM, and reduce the resource demands put on Internet e-mail servers by SPAM.

The amount of on-going administration required by most products currently on the market, drove Robert Berger (Chief Software Architect of SPamela™) to attack the problem of SPAM by developing a unique and more effective solution.  After two years of researching and tracking all the variations and variety of SPAM on the Internet U.S. Telecom is proud to introduce SPamela™.  With its patent pending technology, SPamela™ is able to trace the SPAM transmission back to its source even before the message leaves the sender’s server.

Call eTribeca at 888-219-0207 or e-mail sales@etribeca.com

SPamela™’s Patent Pending technology will allow/disallow e-mail based on who the sender is and the identity rules applicable to that category of sender.  When SPAM is sent to this product, the identification rules typically reject the message before the contents of the message can tie up Internet bandwidth or waste costly server resources.  This differs from a majority of the currently marketed anti-SPAM products, as they utilize content filtering, which requires the acceptance of the entire message in order to facilitate the processing of the information in the message against content filters.  This process is substantially slower, resource intensive, and can become ineffective if the content filter lists are not constantly maintained.

The SPamela Control Room is the interface that displays the current status of SPamela, running statistics and a single point of access for all administrative tasks.

The Key Benefits of SPamelatm compared to other solutions

  • Blocks 90% - 97% of SPAM sent to an e-mail server

  • Works with ANY host-based e-mail system

  • Filters SPAM based on identity of the originating sender, NOT content filtering

  • Reduces the amount of bandwidth consumed by SPAM

  • Helps in reducing the overall size of mailboxes as SPAM messages are never received

  • Allows for e-mail servers to better utilize resources

  • Essentially administration-free, with algorithms not relying on ever-changing rules

  • SPAM that does pass through must have a registered domain name, exposing the senders to civil and criminal prosecution

OneStep Configuration

After establishing an MX record that directs your domain’s e‑mail to the SPamela system, configuration is a OneStep process.

The SPamela Configuration Control interface allows you to modify settings such as IP address of your mail server, number of SMTP connection you would like to allow, size and location of log files, and whether or not SPamela should reject SPAM or accept and flag these messages.

Administration

Though SPamela does an exceptional job of distinguishing legitimate mail from SPAM, there may be instances where an IT administrator will need to fine tune the filters.  SPamela gives the IT administrator the ability to choose which filtering rules will apply, turn-off filters (bypass) for diagnosing potential issues, keep user-defined white lists to assure certain messages are accepted, and maintain user-defined black lists to reject messages from unwanted senders.

The Filter Control screen provides IT administrators with an easy mechanism for tuning filters as they deem necessary for their environment.

The user-defined WhiteList/BlackList controls provide for simple fine tuning that may be a requirement of a specific environment.  This is an example of the IP BlackList Control screen.

Technical Requirements

SPamela has the following requirements:

Hardware/Software

  • Server or PC with an Intel Pentium II 233MHz processor, or higher

  • 256MB RAM

  • Network Interface Card

  • VGA monitor

  • Mouse

  • Keyboard

  • Windows 2003 Server (Web Edition or better)

Network configuration changes

  • Modify the domain’s MX record to point to the SPamela PC/Server or add a MX record, with a higher priority than the existing record(s), that points to the SPamela PC/Server

  • Modify firewall configuration, if necessary, to allow Internet SMTP traffic through to the SPamela PC/Server

  • Modify firewall configuration, if necessary, to block SMTP traffic coming from the Internet to current SMTP gateway – if SPamela device will not sit on the same network as SMTP gateway, assure the appropriate configuration change is made to allow SMTP traffic from SPamela to existing SMTP gateway
