identical, with additional features:
- New Internal AC power supply
- Support for the new Cisco optional external Redundant Power
System 300 (RPS 300)
- 10/100 console port
- Minimum software dependency of Catalyst OS version 6.1(1)
Key Benefits:
- Reduced Network Operational Expenses---Simplified
Configuration with high port-density minimizes set-up and maintenance configuration
difficulty, compared to using numerous lower density switches to network the same number
of desktops.
- Single IP Address along with Web-based management
interface (option)---offers quick plug-n-play network insertion.
- Consistent Catalyst Software compatibility---provides
enterprise feature, Command Line Interface, and default value consistency with the Cisco
Catalyst 2948G switching solution for lower cost of ownership and maintenance.
- Performance---Layer 2 switching delivers a fast 18
million packets-per-second (pps) powered by a 24 Gbps engine.
- Density---The Catalyst 2980G reduces complexity and
easily supports the changing desktop environments of today's small- and medium-wiring
closets.
- Cisco IOS Network Services---Catalyst 2980G switch
provides mature enterprise Layer 2 features capable of enhancing corporate networks. These
features meet the needs of small- and medium-businesses because they have been improved
based on years of customer feedback.
- Hardware-Based Multicasting---Cisco Group Multicast
Protocol (CGMP) supports efficient multimedia networking.
- Cost-effective---Delivering advances in engineering
and manufacturing, the Catalyst 2980G solution redefines a new price/performance value for
fixed configuration, high-density switching.
- Shared Memory Architecture, No Head-of-Line Blocking---The
low-latency, centralized, shared memory switching fabric architecture assures leading-edge
capabilities and eliminates any possibility of head-of-line blocking.
- Differentiated Quality of Service (QoS)---mission
critical traffic prioritization is supported with dual queues per port, allowing
differentiated network traffic based on user/administrator defined priorities with
standards-based 802.1P compatibility.
- High Availability---standards based Virtual LAN
(VLAN) support with standards-based 802.1Q tagging, Spanning Tree Protocol (802.1D) along
with Cisco enhancements for STPV, UplinkFast, PortFast, etc. assures maximum up-time and
fault recovery.
