Planet delivers a comprehensive wireless LAN management, control and
integration platform that solves the challenges typical of the most
demanding enterprise wireless LAN (WLAN) environments. This Cisco
compatible, easy-to-deploy platform has an open architecture, and provides
unparalleled visibility and dynamic security and bandwidth management that
extends, rather than replaces, existing wired and wireless infrastructure.

Software
Components
CSD
Engine
Maintains all event and usage data, communicates with CSD Agents to deploy
policies that manage network traffic and control WLAN user and application
behavior. The CSD Engine also acts as an integration point for various
back-end systems such as directory/AAA services. The CSD Engine runs on
industry standard Intel-based Linux servers that can be flexibly deployed
within existing network topologies, typically at the network core.
CSD Agent
Enforces access and bandwidth policies, monitors traffic, and sends usage
reports to the Engine. A single Agent can supports up to 1GB of
throughput. The CSD Agent runs on standard Intel-based Linux servers that
can be flexibly deployed within existing network topologies, either near
the network edge or at the network core. The CSD Agent can also be
deployed at branch locations and be managed remotely.
CSD
Control Console
The CSD Control Console is an all-in-one, highly intuitive web-based
browser interface that provides tools to manage the entire network or any
segment of the network, including users, applications, access points,
access control and bandwidth management policies, and time, location or
standby policies called ‘Modes’. In addition, the Control Console
includes multiple real-time monitoring views of all WLAN activity as well
as reporting functionality.

Features
Security
Authentication
Via SSL encrypted web portal (also PDA-enabled)
Via MAC address, UserID/Password through on-board RADIUS
Employ one or more external authentication service such as RADIUS, LDAP,or
Active Directory and protocol such as PEAP, LEAP, TTLS, 802.1x, or
EAP-MD-5
Block or re-route unknown users (e.g., to walled garden for public
Internet access)
Authorization
Deny access from ineligible users and devices to unauthorized applications
Flexible method for defining an application (e.g. by port, IP-port pair,
subnet, etc.)
Rogue AP
detection (requires separate server-based module)
Stateful Firewall
Blacklist and ‘Ignore’ list
DoS detection
Detailed
Monitoring & Reporting
Real-time
monitoring, display, and logging of all users and devices and their
activity, permissions, status, and location
View by user, by group, by application, or by access point
View each access point’s configuration parameters (e.g., SSIDs, radio
power, radio channel, Ethernet status, firmware version, etc.)
Pre-built statistical network utilization reports -– by user/by group/by
application/by access point
Custom reporting
Can be exported to other network management and business tools such as
CiscoWorks and HP Openview
Bandwidth
Management
Patent-pending dynamic bandwidth conflict resolution mechanism
specifically designed for WLANs at each access point
Can prioritize by user, group or application
All bandwidth is always optimally allocated – never static
