The SOHO 91 router is an affordable solution for a small business that is accessing the Internet with a broadband modem (DSL or cable) but requires multi-user access, Internet security, and business class reliability and manageability.

DSL and cable modems provide only single user access to the broadband connection. The Cisco SOHO 71 router provides shared access with a single IP address and a stateful inspection firewall compared to just Network Address Translation (NAT) which is what most low end consumer routers provide. Some consumer routers provide NAT + packet filtering which is still not enough as this can still be compromised by sophisticated hackers. The Cisco SOHO 91 router also uses Cisco IOS software to provide even small offices with  the proven reliability and manageability that Cisco IOS provides
