ServicePoint 2040-t and 2140-t SDUs

The ServicePoint solution begins with a family of powerful network access devices. The ServicePoint 2040-t SDU is a network access device with one T1 port and one V.35 data port. The ServicePoint 2140-t SDU delivers an extra T1 Add/Drop port for digital voice connections. You can integrate your business and data traffic on a single T1/FT1 line, avoiding multiple access charges.

ServicePoint 2140-t Add/Drop SDUs integrate PBX

ServicePoint SDUs deliver industry leading termination of digital circuits. They perform the standard functions of a DSU/CSU, including electrical isolation of service provider and customer equipment, highly reliable connection with the service provider's network, local loop diagnostics and standards-based management interface.

Circuit Termination

ServicePoint SDUs electrically isolate Telco equipment and user equipment, in compliance with FCC and UL regulations, ensuring a highly reliable connection with your service provider. Terminate features are standard in all ServicePoint SDUs, and include basic local-loop monitoring and circuit turn-up software.

ServicePoint SDUs provide a full suite of diagnostic
reports to help isolate problems in the local loop.

Circuit Trending

The ServicePoint SDU provides a full suite of diagnostic reports to help isolate problems in the local loop. Poor line signal quality, framing violations, and other network errors can all be caused by problems in the local loop. This monitoring provides fast problem resolution in the local loop, where industry experts agree most service-affecting problems originate. In a leased line environment, ServicePoint SDUs also provide end-to-end diagnostics.

ServicePoint SDUs produce summary and detailed metrics, including available seconds and breakdown of errors by time and type. SDU tools include industry-standard loopbacks, test code generation, and built-in BERT testing.

Reports include T1 line availability and quality measurements, as well as near- and far-end diagnostic summaries. With this information, you can identify and resolve circuit problems before they affect service, helping to provide cleaner traffic throughput and minimal network downtime.

Circuit Troubleshooting

ServicePoint SDUs provide a comprehensive set of circuit loopback features to support line segment testing. Line segment testing allows you or your service provider to probe the T1 circuit to isolate where data flow is being corrupted or disrupted.

With ServicePoint SDUs you can set all loopbacks locally, in your near-end device. You can also set the line, payload, and data port loopbacks remotely, in a far-end device.

  • Line Loopback: Allows your service provider (or a far-end device) to test the T1 signals at the SDU network interface. By looping the signal, including framing and line coding errors, back to the network unaltered, the service provider can test the looped signal for errors.

  • Payload Loopback: Allows your service provider to test the T1 signals after they have passed through the SDU framer, to isolate where problems are occurring.

  • Local Loopback: Allows you to test transmission from the DTE through the SDU to verify data path to the edge of the network.

  • Data Port Loopback: Allows your service provider to examine the fractional DS0 channels assigned to the data port of the SDU, without affecting other services.

  • Data Terminal Loopback: Allows you to verify the cabling between the data port and the attached DTE device. You can also monitor the looped signal for errors at the DTE.

  • Terminal Interface Loopback: Allows you to loop the incoming T1 signal at the terminal interface in SDU Add/Drop devices to verify the cabling between the terminal interface and the CPE.

SNMP Standards-Based In-Band Management

ServicePoint SDUs support and provide advanced management features that allow you to take active control of your network - you can remotely configure your units and receive SNMP traps for important network events.

With in-band management and local Ethernet connectivity, ServicePoint SDUs can be managed easily from a remote or local site.

An embedded SNMP agent allows you easy integration into standard management systems and maximizes your network uptime. The agent supports SETs, GETs and Traps, as well as standard and enterprise MIBs.

In-band access to remote sites, supported by a local Ethernet port, eliminates the need for additional remote monitoring equipment and simplifies remote management.

ServicePoint 2040-tm and 2140-tm SDUs with Terminate and Monitor

Pre-loaded with both Terminate and Monitor features, 2040-tm and 2140-tm SDUs enable businesses to monitor Frame Relay SLAs and identify the top users and applications that are consuming WAN bandwidth. Additionally, 2040-t and 2140-t SDUs can be upgraded with a simple download to include Monitor features.

LMI Spoofing

To help network managers troubleshoot problems quickly and minimize downtime, ServicePoint SDUs with Monitor features support LMI spoofing. LMI spoofing auto-detects router or switch failure and maintains the frame connection to assist with diagnostics and rapid service restoral.

Frame Relay Service Monitoring

ServicePoint -tm SDUs gather information on many Frame Relay service parameters, including the three key parameters of your carrier's Frame Relay SLA - Availability, Delay and Data Delivery Rate. This information is viewed using either ServicePoint Reporter or other SNMP-based reporting systems.

ServicePoint SDUs with Monitor features deliver a detailed and accurate picture of the key paramenters of your Frame Relay SLA.

webdiag4.gif (7492 bytes)

In addition, ServicePoint -tm SDUs provide text-based reports to assist in the turn-up and troubleshooting of Frame Relay services. These text reports include statistics on PVC traffic, network congestion, delays, dropped packets, bursting and even Link Management (LMI) events. The reports also show status of PVCs, the router ports and switch ports.

Enterprise Monitoring

ServicePoint -tm SDUs gather real-time details on how enterprise LAN traffic consumes your Frame Relay bandwidth. This information is available through ServicePoint Explorer. Also, ServicePoint SDUs with Monitor features are compatible with RMON and RMON2, and can be easily integrated into standard RMON applications.

ServicePoint SDUs with Monitor features help network managers understand WAN bandwidth consumption by user and application.
